Teahupoo Billabong Blog: What a rip... Cory came out charging in the quaterfinal bagging two beautiful waves before Kai even woke up. That 8.97 was unbelievable, 'Slateresque'. Cory was so deep he wasn't coming out. Everyone thought he fell, the wave was over, onto the next... then all of a sudden he comes out of the longest, deepest tube. I was thinking mid 9's, didn't happen. Then the lanky Austrailian (who only caught 3 waves in the heat) sleep walks into a 6 footer and does a stinkbug in the tube and they give him a 9.9??????? What? Are you kidding me? Cory is charging his heart out, Kai is cruising and they give him the heat. Cory's overall score of 17.64 (which should've been higher) would've won any other heat that day, including the final. Feels like a punch in the gut. What does it take? Maybe if Cory had done a 360 air out of that tube they give him a 9.5? What do these judges want? Keep your chin up Cory, you were killing it! In the end I'm so glad Damo won it. Damo surfed like a man posessed in the final, besting Mick fanning who's backside tube skills were just incredible... Great contest...
