2001 Teahupoo Champion and former World # 3, Cory Lopez (USA) defeated former World Champ, Mark Occhilupo, Taylor Knox and current World number one rated surfer Taj Burrow to advance to the Quarter Finals.

Lopez matched Taj wave for wave with high flying maneuvers and skillful barrel riding in one of the highest scoring heats of the 2007 event. Big swell expected to arrive for final heats on Wednesday; pending surfer vote for a one day stay of event in anticipation of new swell. Surfer Vote to be announced at 7:30 am Tahitian time.
